is a recognized 501 (c)3 charity, supporting scientific research in photobiology and photoecology for wildlife conservation and animal welfare.

provides scholarships to improve animal care and to mitigate biodiversity loss due to artificial lighting conditions. It advocates 'photodiversity™' in 'luminous habitat' for animal welfare and wildlife conservation based upon such research. 'PhotoDiversity' is a crucial ZLI concept that relates dynamic natural lighting conditions to biodiversity as well as the cultural diversity necessary for success in wildlife conservation initiatives.

The Institute believes that its mission is best achieved by supporting the creative arts in partnership with aquariums and zoos around the globe, and we seek to foster public grass-roots movements as an AZA Conservation Partner.
