Aliya S. King is currently Editor-at-Large for BET Digital Networks and served as Digital Producer from 2015-2018, where she produced several mini-docs, including on Track & Field Olympian Justin Gatlin. Her other producing projects have included segments and interviews with Patti LaBelle, Alicia Keys, Love and Hip-Hop star Remy Ma and a brand new series for BET called A Walk With…

Underneath the direction of producers Mitzi K. Miller and Kierna Mayo, Aliya was appointed Entertainment Editor for the legendary EBONY magazine where she served from 2014-2015. There, she oversaw the production of every monthly cover story, including securing writers and photoshoots. Her April 2016 issue of EBONY including her interview with Kerry Washington and the following cover of Tina Knowles, were the highest-selling issues of the year.

Aliya is a frequent contributor for Jezebel, the much lauded-women’s site. She also writes regularly for Essence, including an essay in this month’s #MeToo issue on R. Kelly. Her byline is also seen at The Root and she is a regular contributor to Very Smart Brothers, where she writes a column about her experiences as a hip-hop journalist.

As a freelance writer, her work is often cited and sourced in the media. Her recent piece on The Cosby Show’s Geoffrey Owen for BET, led to appearances on NPR to discuss her work. Her piece on Beyoncé’s Lemonade for Essence is now taught in several sociology classes.

As an educator, Aliya runs two writer workshops, one for pitching periodicals and one for creative writing.   Aliya is the co-author ofNew York TimesbestsellerKeeping The Faith.The book is a collaboration with platinum-recording artist Faith Evans and was published by Grand Central Publishing in the fall of 2008. She’s also the co-author of Frank Lucas’ memoir,American Gangster, which was published simultaneously by St. Martins and Ebury in the summer of 2009.  Her first novel,Platinum, was released by Touchstone/Simon and Schuster in the fall of 2010 The sequel, Diamond Life, was published in 2012.   Aliya S. King was born and raised in East Orange, New Jersey. She is a 1994 graduate of Rutgers University with a B.A. in African-American History and certification in Secondary Education from the Rutgers Graduate School of Education.  She is also a graduate of the Radcliffe Publishing Course.
